Hyperbaric
Oxygen Therapy

Sessions in soft-sided chambers at K Wellness, sitting up or lying down. Sixty minutes at 1.3 ATA.

The basics

What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Hyperbaric therapy means spending time inside a chamber that is pressurized above normal air pressure.

At K Wellness, sessions take place in a soft-sided chamber: we have one you sit upright in and two you lie down in. The chambers are pressurized with air — not supplemental oxygen — to 1.3 ATA (atmospheres absolute), about 30% above normal air pressure. Our chambers are not used to treat medical conditions. For FDA-cleared uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, talk to your doctor. Read how a mild chamber differs from clinical HBOT.

HBOT isn’t right for everyone, and it isn’t a substitute for care from your own doctor. Before treatment, our medical assistant asks about your health conditions, so tell us about any conditions, medications or recent surgery. It isn’t a medical evaluation — if you’re unsure whether this is safe for you, ask your doctor first.

What a hyperbaric chamber session is like

  1. 1Before your sessionOur medical assistant asks about your health conditions and anything you’re taking. Tell us about any medications, supplements, allergies or recent surgery.
  2. 2Settle inYou sit upright or lie down inside a soft-sided chamber.
  3. 3The sessionThe chamber is gently pressurized with air to 1.3 ATA. You may feel pressure in your ears, as on a plane. Sessions last 60 minutes.
  4. 4AfterwardsWe check in on how you felt and talk through whether further sessions make sense.

Why red light therapy in the HBOT (called t-HBOT)?

Targeted hyperbaric oxygen therapy (t-HBOT) combines traditional hyperbaric oxygen therapy with localized treatments like low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to deliver concentrated healing benefits to specific body tissues.

Core concepts of t-HBOT

  • The mechanism: Patients breathe pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber while a localized application (such as LLLT) stimulates specific targeted tissue areas.
  • Lower pressures: This dual approach allows practitioners to use lower overall chamber pressures while achieving high local oxygen absorption.
  • Reduced frequency: Treatment schedules may be reduced to 1 to 3 times per week instead of daily sessions required by standard protocols.

Standard vs. targeted applications

  • Standard HBOT: Administered at 2 to 3 atmospheres of pressure for 90 to 120 minutes daily to treat generalized systemic conditions, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, and severe non-healing wounds.
  • Targeted t-HBOT: Focuses on localized injuries or specific rehabilitation goals, bypassing the need for intensive, daily multi-week commitments by maximizing localized tissue uptake.
Questions

Common questions

How long is a session?

Sessions last 60 minutes.

What does it feel like?

Most people notice pressure in their ears as the chamber pressurizes, similar to a plane taking off or landing. Swallowing or yawning usually helps. Let us know right away if you feel discomfort.

Possible side effects include ear or sinus pain, temporary vision changes and tiredness. Rarely, more serious problems such as lung injury can occur.

How many sessions will I need?

There’s no set number. Ask us when you call.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear 100% cotton clothing. Lotions, oils, hair products and electronics aren’t allowed in the chamber.

Is HBOT covered by insurance?

We don’t accept insurance. We accept credit and debit cards, mobile payments, and HSA/FSA cards. Check with your plan whether a service qualifies for HSA/FSA use.
